On Sunday I went Letterboxing. I got the idea from this article in the Courier. A friend and I went followed this clue to a forest preserve I never knew existed–Voyager’s Landing.
We had to climb up and down a lot of small yet steep hills to get to the hidden box.
Finally, a letterbox!
It had lots of stamps in it from other people who had found it over the past two years.
There were two boxes hidden, but we only found one. We weren’t sure what “a sleeping giant” in the clue referred to–another tree?

I really wanted to check out Boricua Fest (a Puerto Rican festival in Festival Park) today, but I had already committed to two barbecues. No fear! DNA (Downtown Neighborhood Association) was there in full effect and took great photos. Click here to view.

I went to see the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. I was a bit disappointed that they played Western, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I took a short video that has poor sound and picture quality–enjoy.
Next were the fireworks, which were absolutely amazing. I took a bunch of photos, but they all turned out like the one above. I think it looks like a bad t-shirt in need of a howling wolf.

Stay tuned for a post on Foxfire Fest…just going in order.
The weather cleared up and I went out to Hampshire last Thursday night. Here is a photo of the downtown:

Here are photos of the carnival. We rode on the Ferris Wheel.

Their clothes match the rides perfectly
Here’s a clip of Old School Band playing Sweet Home Alabama. The recording is pretty bad, but you get the idea.

Here is the Bike-to-Work Week description cut and pasted from the City of Elgin’s website:
The Elgin Community Network (ECN) with co-sponsors, The Bicycle Garage (Carpentersville) and The City of Elgin are planning a series of events to help make Elgin’s first annual Bike to Work Week, August 2-8, a success. During the week of August 4 through 8, showers will be available at the Centre of Elgin for those who commute to work in the downtown area on their bikes. The ECN will provide free, secure bike parking for those who ride to the Fox Fire Fest on Saturday and Sunday. On August 7, The Bicycle Garage will host a free bike clinic at the Harvest Market for those who would like to maintain their own bikes. The City of Elgin will provide a free lunch on Friday August 8 for the bike commuters who track the miles and days they commuted to work.
Free, reusable water bottles will be given at the bike corral, the bike clinic, and the Friday lunch. For more information, contact Carl Missele at 847-741-0825 or e-mail cmissele35@wowway.com.
