My cousin Trent will be moving to Elgin this fall to play basketball and get an education at Judson University. Click here to read all about it. You can bet that I’ll be attending lots of games!

This sounds fun! It also sounds like they need all the volunteers they can get. Check it out. I think I might.
About 130 home-schooled junior high and high school students from five states are coming to Judson University for a speech and debate tournament May 6-8. Organizers are searching for 300 to 400 more volunteer judges. Judges will listen to a maximum of eight speeches and rank the speakers; and for debates, the judge will choose a winner in the round. No experience is needed to serve as a judge. Judges must be at least age 18 and willing to sit for about 1½ hours for speeches. Organizers will provide all the information needed to evaluate the speeches during a short orientation. To sign up, people should fill out the judge registration form on Judson University’s Web site, www.judsonu.edu, or send an e-mail to judges06@gmail.com. Phone inquiries can be made to Chicago Charge representative at (847) 997-0033.

North Central College in Naperville is doing something awesome. Judson–copy this!! Here’s their announcement from last fall:
A fleet of 20 red bikes will begin appearing in bike racks around campus on October 19 as part of the Cardinal Community Bike Program to encourage more economical and environmentally conscious travel around campus. Faculty, staff and students may pick up a bike in one location, ride to another spot on campus or Naper Place Apartments, and lock the bike in a rack at the new location. In future issues, This Week will feature tips and more information about the program.

Here are fun things that deserve a mention:
*How come no one tells me about these trivia contests? A Judson team won the Literacy Connection’s Annual Trivia Bee at the Casino. Around the same time other people had fun at the Lions Club trivia-ing it up to raise money for breast cancer research.
*The Centre currently has a life-sized game where you can hit and kick flashing lights for a work out.

Councilman Mike Powers plays NEO. Photo from Courier News.
*Elgin is creating a wetland habitat next to the Fox River. Awesome & I can’t wait.
*South Elgin will be home to a Fairy Festival August 2nd & 3rd.

*St. Charles has some major redevelopment going on downtown. Sounds like something worth visiting.

On a freak warm day in February I grabbed my dog and took a walk around Elgin looking for the Gold Coast neighborhood. Not too sure if I ever made it there since I don’t know what the boundaries are, but I did take some photos of nice houses on my way. & the whole thing got me thinking…should Elgin have a neighborhood map like Chicago’s? I’ll answer my own question: Yes! I’m thinking some Judson architecture students should get on that.

That porch looks like it’d be great for sipping lemonade on a summer’s day.

Love the little guy out front.
