Elgin is the best ever!

May 22nd, 2008

According to Best Life magazine, Elgin is the 52nd best place in the US to raise a family. Woo hoo! They looked at 257 American cities total–Honolulu is #1 and Clarkesville, Tennessee came in dead last.

Here’s how other Illinois cities stacked up:
17. Naperville
19. Springfield
52. Elgin
60. Chicago

I’m not sure if I trust the ratings though because #32 is Las Vegas. Why would Vegas rank higher than Elgin? More casinos?

North Central College in Naperville is doing something awesome. Judson–copy this!! Here’s their announcement from last fall:

A fleet of 20 red bikes will begin appearing in bike racks around campus on October 19 as part of the Cardinal Community Bike Program to encourage more economical and environmentally conscious travel around campus. Faculty, staff and students may pick up a bike in one location, ride to another spot on campus or Naper Place Apartments, and lock the bike in a rack at the new location. In future issues, This Week will feature tips and more information about the program.

Yes! The Chicago Tribune has done it for a while and the result has been fascinating conversation. Sure, it occasionally devolves into arguments and cheap shots, but overall it’s great. Click here for the article announcing commenting on the online articles.

Now all they need to do is start an Elgin-focused blog. Seriously, Aurora, Naperville, and Lake County each have one. What about us?
