Elgin Craigslist Roundup

June 6th, 2008

If you’re feeling under the weather on a Friday night, what better to do than peruse craigslist?

*Somebody help this guy. Seriously, his request is adorable. He wants to give his girlfriend a handwritten poem, but has bad handwriting. He will pay $20 for you to write the poem out nicely. See? Adorable!

*You can attend and camp at the Lazy River Music Festival for free in exchange for 3-4 hours of volunteer work per day. Not my number one style of music, but anything outdoors during the summer is awesome. If I didn’t have a wedding that weekend I’d probably do it.

*I always thought driving an ice cream truck would be fun. Too bad they’re not looking for part-timers.

*This women is my hero. She’s offering to temporarily take care of the dogs of people whose houses are getting foreclosed. I hope she takes this one. Or maybe it’s time I ask my landlord if I can have a second dog here.

*This guy needs a cop to fingerprint him. A cop who can supply the ink, at that.

*Women’s Midlife Friends & Bunco Group. Enough said.

…LAST BUT NOT LEAST:

*Did you know Elgin is home to “America’s Best Psychic Fair?” Starts tomorrow.

Tequilas!

April 24th, 2008

When I heard about the trouble Tequilas Restaurant in South Elgin was having, I knew I had to high tail it over there to sample their food for the first time in case they didn’t make it. I will sum up my review in one word–YUM!

tequilas

Our server was attentive and friendly. The water was refilled often which is a must for me.

tequilas

The food was tasty and affordable. (The extra budget-conscious might want to know they have coupons up on restaurant.com.)

tequilas

The only thing I can ask for is more vegetarian options. They do substitutions, but the menu didn’t indicate that and when I asked I felt like I was confusing the server.

tequilas

The restaurant is spacious. We went around 5 PM and there was one lone couple there aside from our group. I would guess it picks up around 9 and becomes a hot spot for dancing after that. Maybe next time!

Odds and Ends

April 21st, 2008

Here are fun things that deserve a mention:

*How come no one tells me about these trivia contests? A Judson team won the Literacy Connection’s Annual Trivia Bee at the Casino. Around the same time other people had fun at the Lions Club trivia-ing it up to raise money for breast cancer research.

*The Centre currently has a life-sized game where you can hit and kick flashing lights for a work out.

*Elgin is creating a wetland habitat next to the Fox River. Awesome & I can’t wait.

*South Elgin will be home to a Fairy Festival August 2nd & 3rd.

*St. Charles has some major redevelopment going on downtown. Sounds like something worth visiting.
