Walk & Roll!

May 10th, 2008

The Walk & Roll was a great time! I had never been on an organized bike ride before this (unless you count Critical Mass). I was expecting a lane to be blocked off on some of the roads, but I guess maybe that is only for rides with more participants? Either way, fun time. I’ve participated in fund raisers for cancer research before, but this one was so much more meaningful because one of my family members is dealing with cancer right now.

This is a video I took before the ride, just scoping out the scene when Ronald McDonald showed up. That confused me–doesn’t McDonald’s probably contribute to cancer?

This is a video of people doing karate in Festival Park after the ride.

The Kickstands raised over $2,000–amazing! Feel free to click the link and join us sometime.

Walk & Roll!

April 3rd, 2008

Click here to support me in Elgin’s Walk & Roll on Saturday May 10th. Any money you donate will go to cancer research. Participants will either walk 5 miles, rollerblade 10 miles, or bike 15 miles. The goal is to raise $55,000 for cancer research. I have signed up to bicycle with the Kickstands, an Elgin bike gang.

If you live in the Elgin area and enjoy doing fun bike-related events like this (and also bike bar crawls!), consider joining the Kickstands. One of my friends started this awesome group and I expect us to do a lot of cool stuff this year!
